I’m Lindsay, and I’m happy you’ve found your way here.

I’m a wife, mom of 2, world traveler + natural light photographer based in Rochester, New York. I believe wholeheartedly that Love is Love. I’m interested in people, stories, social justice, family history, and nostalgia.

Family photos are where my heart is. From weddings to new babies to family gatherings and milestones, pregnancies and simple days at home, all the way up to documenting families and pets in preparation for end of life, I believe that your life is precious, and worth documenting.

I have the world’s best husband and two beautiful, hilarious kiddos, Henry & Nellie.
We have a funny, adorable dog who looks like he robbed a bank (Harvey), two goldfish (Karen & Susie) and two spiders (Fred & Raindrop). The spiders are cute, no joke.
Travel

Fun fact: I've traveled to all 7 continents!
International travel is why I picked up a camera in the first place.

History

I am a photographer because of love, nostalgia, and history.
I consider documenting my own family to be one of my most important roles as their mother and I take my job as your family historian just as seriously.

What’s your photography journey?

I focused on art in high school and had undergraduate minors in Studio Art and Film, but never considered photography until a semester in New Zealand and the loss of a beautiful friend opened my eyes to the impermanence of incredible, life-changing moments and people. My memories from my own life are strongest where there are photos or videos to reflect back on, and I know I’m not alone.

As a mother, I’ve often found myself straining to create “core memories” for myself (Inside Out, anyone?) - the way my son’s baby ankles were always crossed over his round little feet in his stroller, the way my daughter always held on to an ear to fall asleep, the way they look at each other just-so when they’re being mischievous together, and those little details solidify in my mind the moment I turn my camera to them.

I started Lindsay Stephany Photography in 2012 and it’s been an indescribably special and transformational experience in business, art, and connection that I still love with all my heart.

Ok, this one isn’t a question, but it needs to be said! At Lindsay Stephany Photography we love and accept every family, every couple, regardless of their abilities, race, religion, or orientation. We whole heartedly embrace non-traditional, differently-abled, LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC families and those who find themselves underrepresented on the portfolio pages of photographers. I would be honored if you would allow me document your love through photos, and to provide you tangible memories to pass down through generations.

Where are you based & do you travel?

I’m based in Rochester, NY! We also have a (very) little cabin on Seneca Lake so we are often in the Finger Lakes. (Pssst: it’s available to rent on Airbnb! Check it out.)

I love to travel, and I’m passport ready! Sessions and Destination Weddings are quoted on an individual basis, please contact me for details.

How would you describe your style?

Natural, emotional, fun, photo journalistic, real.

I love connection. I love that each relationship, each family, each wedding is completely different from the next. My goal is to capture events and moments as they unfold, and my empathetic, patient nature allows me both to see the good and beautiful in people, and to read the room and act accordingly.

For families with kiddos, I let the kids set the pace. I get on their level, and have gained kid fluency that allows me to connect with the shy parent clingers as well as the off-the-wallers. There is beauty in all of it, trust me.

For weddings, I try to blend in as much as possible in order to authentically document what is happening. Your wedding is your story - I'm there to tell it.

But I don’t know how to pose myself!

Don't worry! While I do take more of a documentary style for most of a wedding day, I am fully aware that posing is in order, especially for formal photos, portraits and bridal party shots, and I am confident in my posing abilities. You're going to look great.

Do you have insurance & backup?

Yes, I have on site insurance for all equipment, as well as liability insurance. I always carry at least one back up camera as well as backup flashes, memory cards and other equipment. I shoot weddings to two memory cards simultaneously, and back up each wedding as soon as I get home in the cloud and on an external hard drive. Your wedding is safe with me!

Do you work with a second photographer for weddings?

I sure can!

I have a small team of amazing photographers who work with me as second photographers when couples choose to have one. About 60-70% of weddings I shoot opt for a second photographer with their wedding collection.

Where will our session take place?

Sessions can take place at your home, a location with meaning to you, or we can brainstorm something together.

Maybe downtown is your vibe, or maybe you want to capture your Sunday morning market adventures. Maybe we head to an orchard to pick apples, or to the shore to let the kids sink their toes in the sand. Whatever you find meaningful, whatever brings out the happy for your family, I'm in!

LSP Newborn sessions are typically in home to maximize your comfort, allowing for plenty of feeding breaks, changing breaks and mama snuggles. This allows me to document this new version of your family as it is right now - the nursery you worked so hard on, the place you call home, your pets, plants, pillows and the little nooks and people that mean the most to you.

I do have a beautiful, natural-light studio in Rochester, NY in the Anderson Arts Building! I love Studio Sessions, so that’s always an option.
